Can CBD Help Prevent Cancer?

CBD Therapy
CBD Therapy

CBD has widespread uses in managing the symptoms and the disease itself, in many areas. It is even used in supplements and skin care products, all due to the wide range of benefits it provides. When it comes to serious conditions like cancer, the potential benefits of CBD therapy are yet to be studied clearly. Let us take a look at some of the known factors about the use of CBD therapy in cancer patients.

Cancer Prevention With Cannabis

Consumers of cannabis were observed to have increased resistance to bladder cancer but decreased resistance to prostate cancer. The results are mixed, often influenced by myriad factors like the age, gender and lifestyle habits of the subjects studied. Cannabis smoke is known to produce carcinogens, although a direct link between cannabis inhalation and the occurrence of cancer has not been established conclusively.

While ingestion and topical application is still considered the safer options for cannabis consumption when compared to cannabis inhalation, the accurate amount of ingested cannabis that can help deal with cancer-related issues is yet to be understood in detail.

Cancer Treatment With Cannabis

Although cannabis cannot be touted as the magic cure for cancer, its derivatives like CBD and THC find uses in various aspects of cancer treatment. The effectiveness of the therapy using CBD and other derivatives of cannabis can have varying effects on different types of cancer. When compared, the alternate therapies using CBD medicines have shown to be safer and more consistent than those with THC, which showed unpredictable results and a few undesirable side effects.

Decades of research and studies involving actual patients may be needed to understand the implications of the suggested use of cannabis products in the treatment of cancer. In some studies conducted in animals, when used in supplemental therapy with chemotherapy, THC and CBD compounds have shown promising results. In some cases, the growth of tumor cells has been arrested or slowed down. However, there have been rare instances where specific dosages have suppressed the immune system of the subject, leading to further complications like acceleration of tumor growth.

Ongoing studies on the effectiveness of CBD therapy in managing cancer related symptoms are promising, but not conclusive. But it has been proven time and again that CBD-infused products can help with some of the unpleasant outcomes of cancer and can ideally be used as a supplemental therapy in cancer treatment.
