Whenever we read an article about CBD, the term flavonoids come up.  Have you wondered what flavonoids are? In this article, we explain flavonoids and their types.

What Are Flavonoids?

They are compounds in a plant that provides their color. The function of flavonoids is to filter UV light, eradicate toxins and guard the plant against microorganisms. Some flavonoids in the cannabis plant are mentioned below.

Flavonoids Present In Cannabis

Anthocyanin is a type of flavonoid that provides some cannabis plant its purple color. These flavonoids may help with improving brain function and have some cardiovascular benefits.

Apigenin is another flavonoid and has muscle relaxing, sedative, and anti-inflammatory properties. Moreover, it has the potential for reducing the symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease.

Cannflavin is a flavonoid that is only found in the cannabis plant. Type A, B, and C cannflavin are there and they provide cannabis its green color. Cannflavin is known for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Also, it may prevent some cardiovascular diseases.

Kaempferol also has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant benefits. Other flavonoids in cannabis plant include Luteolin, Orientin, Quercetin, and Silymarin.

How Do Flavonoids Work?

Flavonoids work best when it is combined with other cannabinoids and terpenes. There are many cannabinoids present in the cannabis plant which include CBD, CBG, CBN, THC, and many others. The Endocannabinoid System (ECS) plays a vital role in controlling our immune function, mood, and sleep cycles. Cannabinoids can bind to the receptors present in the ECS system.

It is seen that ingesting cannabinoids combined with flavonoids and terpenes is more effective than taking any one element. This effect is called an entourage effect.

CBD Oil And Flavonoids

Three types of CBD oil are available. The key difference between these oils is the removal of certain components of the hemp plant.

Full-spectrum CBD oil contains cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids. The amount of THC is significant and it is under the legally allowed value of 0.3%.

Broad-spectrum CBD oil doesn’t contain any amount of THC but has terpenes and flavonoids in them. You can get a partial entourage effect when broad-spectrum CBD oil is used.

CBD isolate doesn’t have any cannabinoids other than CBD. It also doesn’t include terpenes or flavonoids. CBD isolate is also known as pure CBD as it contains 99% of CBD. People who don’t want to consume THC or terpenes can use CBD isolate, but it is found to be less effective when compared to other CBD products.
